CAGE code

Also called: Commercial and Government Entity code, NCAGE (for entities outside the US)

A CAGE (Commercial and Government Entity) code is a five-character ID assigned by the Defense Logistics Agency that identifies a business at a specific location. SAM.gov requests it automatically during registration.

You do not need a CAGE code before you register in SAM.gov. When you submit your entity registration, SAM.gov sends your information to the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), which assigns the code, and SAM.gov adds it to your registration.

No further action is needed on your part unless DLA asks for more information. The code is five letters and numbers with no spaces, shown in uppercase.

The Department of War's SBIR instructions note that registering in SAM generates both the UEI and the CAGE code for a proposing small business.
