SBA Company Registry and SBC Control ID
Also called: SBIR.gov Company Registry, SBA Company Registration, SBC ID, Proof of Registration
The SBA Company Registry, on SBIR.gov, is where a small business must register before applying for SBIR or STTR funding. Each completed registration receives an SBC Control ID used on submissions to every participating agency.
All SBIR and STTR applicants must register in SBA's Company Registry before submitting an application. The registration gives the company an SBC Control ID (for example, SBC_123456789), which goes in the SBIR/STTR information section of an NIH application and in NSF and DoW proposals.
The registry is separate from SAM.gov but depends on it. You need your UEI from SAM.gov, and to be verified the point-of-contact email you give must match one of the POC emails listed in SAM.gov for that UEI.
The Department of War asks firms to provide the SBC Control ID and Proof of Registration/Certification during proposal submission in DSIP. It warns that SBIR.gov identity verification takes extra time and cannot be expedited, so start early.
The order of registrations is flexible: NIH says SBA registration is not required before SAM, Grants.gov or eRA Commons registration.
