NIH SEED
Also called: Small business Education and Entrepreneurial Development office, NIH SEED office
SEED (Small business Education and Entrepreneurial Development) is the NIH office that coordinates SBIR and STTR across HHS, including NIH, CDC, FDA and ACL, and runs entrepreneurship support for awardees.
SEED sits within the NIH Office of Extramural Research and coordinates the SBIR and STTR programs for NIH, CDC, FDA and ACL. ARPA-H also takes part in HHS small business programs.
NIH notes that the scope of work is the same for SBIR and STTR, but partnering with a nonprofit research institution is allowed under SBIR and required under STTR.
NIH directs questions to program officers at its Institutes and Centers. If you are not sure which program officer to contact, NIH says to email the SEED office.
SEED also runs I-Corps at NIH, entrepreneurship training for companies with a Phase I SBIR or STTR award from NIH, CDC, FDA or ACL.
